Louisville, Ky. (May 16, 2011) – Summer is just around the corner and that means the return of the Louisville Free Public Library’s Summer Reading Program.  This year the Library is being invaded by mythical and magical creatures of all kinds as we celebrate “Myth Magic, and Imagination.” The program will encourage children and teens to unlock the doors to new worlds through books. Whether it’s Harry Potter or Harold and the Purple Crayon, reading inspires imagination, creativity, and learning - and that’s what LFPL’s annual Summer Reading Program is all about!

Participating is easy. Kids birth to fifth grade and teens sixth to twelfth grades can visit any of our 18 locations, starting June 1, to pick up a Summer Reading folder.  Return the completed folder to the library by August 6 and win some great prizes.

Prizes for kids include: a backpack and journal, passes to the Louisville Science Center, Speed Art Museum, Rauch Planetarium, Louisville Bats, Squire Boone Caverns, Locust Grove, Thomas Edison House, UofL Athletics, Wendy’s, and Fazoli’s.

Prizes for middle and high school students include: a USB wristband, passes to Louisville Science Center, Rauch Planetarium, Louisville Bats, Squire Boone Caverns, Locust Grove, Mom’s Music, UofL Athletics, and Fazoli’s.

And if that isn’t enough, the Main Library is hosting a Summer Reading Kickoff on Saturday, June 11 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be games, crafts, storytelling and more! The first 500 people will receive a free pass to the opening of the Louisville Science Center’s The Chronicles of Narnia: The Exhibition, later that day (passes valid June 11, 1 - 9 p.m. only).

Reading is the foundation of a good education and the Library’s Summer Reading Program helps kids have fun doing it.  Help kids join the adventure this summer.  For more information on summer reading, visit us online at LFPL.org or call 574-1620.

Louisville Free Public Library connects the residents of Louisville and Jefferson County to knowledge and information at our 18 locations and on the Web at www.lfpl.org.  Come on in, the whole world’s inside.
